The Jogasaki Coast was formed nearly 4,000 years ago when the Mount Omuro erupted and the lava cooled in the ocean. This ria coast stretches for nearly nine kilometers from Futo to Yawatano in the southern part of Ito. The sheer cliffs formed by the eroding waves offer a glimpse of mystical and majestic scenery created by nature. The fierce terrain is one of the most representative landscapes of Izu’s east coast. The highlight of the area is Kadowaki Bridge. This suspension bridge connecting two steep cliffs is 48 meters long, and the view looking down from the top is enough to make one go weak in the knees.

Cross the bridge and you’ll arrive at the 25-meter-tall Kadowaki Cape Light House. From the observation platform 17 meters above the ground, you’ll have a 360-degree panoramic view of the far-off Seven Islands of Izu and Amagi Mountains. In addition to the scenery of the wide-open sea, there are plenty of seasonal sights including a plateau of virgin forest filled with the largest population of bayberry in Japan, as well as a colony of hime yuzuriha. Come see gorgeous flowers such as hydrangeas in June, orange daylilies and lilium maculatum in July, and gold and silver chrysanthemum and leopard plants in autumn. Different animals can also be seen such as Japanese hares, swallows, and squirrels. This area features the coastal Picnical Course and a nature research path with a promenade adapted from the natural surroundings for a great place to walk.
