Nowadays, Nakafurano's lavender fields attract large numbers of visitors to the region every summer, when the plants are in full bloom. The majority of lavender usually starts blooming in late June and reaches its peak from around mid-July to early August.
Farm Tomita is the most popular lavender viewing spot in the Furano area. A purple carpet of lavenders spreads over the slope which is so stunning and breathtaking. Definitely a highlight of any trip to Hokkaido in summer.
This popular farm is free to enter and besides the flower fields has cafes and shops that sell a wide range of lavender related products.
In the farm it's a must to try lavender ice cream, available in cup & cone. It' soft and smells like happiness. It will just make your day happier.
The ice cream shop is situated inside the lavender farm. There are more shops before the farm, but they sell other things, melon ice cream, steamed sweet corn, etc. Each shop sells different product.
Farm Tomita opened a second farm named Lavender East, which opened in celebration of the 50th year since grand opening, is one of the largest Lavender gardens with an area of 14ha.It is located 4 km east of Farm Tomita, in the direction of the Tokachi Mountains. Approximately 90,000 Lavender flowers are to be seen from the observation deck. This is a must-see destination during mid-July to early August. This should definitely be on your itinerary for your trip to Hokkaido.
