The Contemporary Art Museum Kumamoto is located on the third floor of the Bipuresu Kumanichi Kaikan commercial complex in downtown Kumamoto City. The museum opened in 2002 as a Contemporary Art Museum where visitors can experience diverse cultures on a daily basis. This town center presents the cultural power of Kumamoto, and contributes to the liveliness of the city.

The exhibition rooms are not the only place to appreciate the artwork at the Contemporary Art Museum Kumamoto. Artwork by international artists can be found in various places around the museum, such as the empty spaces under stairs, and on columns and ceiling lights, is another highlight of the museum. With the exception of the galleries that hold special exhibitions, all of the other facilities, such as the Home Gallery, where visitors can freely read a wide range of books, from art books to manga, and the Machinaka Kosodate Hiroba, where parents and children can casually drop by, are free of charge and are popular with many people as a place for citizens to relax and enjoy.
