Giant TV tower built 1912
This massive TV tower built in 1912 is a symbol of Osaka
Translated as 'tower reaching heaven', Tsutenkaku Tower in Osaka, Japan is one of the city’s most well-known and beloved landmarks. Rebuilt after the original tower was disassembled to be used in the war effort, the new 8-sided structure was created in 1956 and has drawn thousands of visitors from across the globe ever since.
Tsutenkaku Tower is best appreciated at night due to its LED illuminations. The tower's lights change according to the current season and weather, never staying the same for long. On the 5th floor of the tower is an observation deck with a spectacular panorama of the city, perfect for capping off a day of Osaka sightseeing.
One of the top things to do in Osaka is to visit the renowned 'Billiken' shrine on the tower’s 5th floor. Visitors are encouraged to place a coin in the donation box and rub the feet of the statue to have their wish granted. Events are held frequently in the tower's basement theater and are a real treat for anyone looking to sample some authentic Kansai entertainment. If you’re hungry after your visit, some of the best restaurants in Osaka are located nearby.
