Consisting of a big plaza and two ponds
Surrounded by forest, making it a peaceful spot in the middle of the city.
The first park to be established in Asahikawa City of Hokkaido, Tokiwa Park is located at the center of the city and serves as a place of recreation and relaxation for people. The spacious ground is dotted with cultural art sites such as a prefectural art museum and an auditorium but also such facilities as a library and a reference library.
The area is decorated by a variety of trees such as Japanese stewartia and syringa that flower at the beginning of July, as well as ginkgo, with outdoor sculptures and stone markers blending into the green scenery. There are two ponds on the ground, with birds elegantly gloat in Chidoriga-ike pond (Plover pond), where images of people enjoying boating can also be seen. Cherry and azalea decorate the scene in spring, while water lilies float in Hakucho-ike pond (Swan pond) in summer and crimson foliage can be seen in autumn. The entire area is transformed into a silver world in wintertime. Snow is then removed to offer visitors the enjoyment of walking in the snow or playing park golf on snow. The event “Tabe Marche” (Eating around) for culinary enjoyment on the go is featured in the middle of September as well.
Firework displays and Asahikawa Winter Festival are convened at Riberain Asahikawa Park located across Ishikari River. Tokiwa Park features snow lanterns while the winter festival is convened, to guide visitors to the venue. Asahi Bridge that spans across Ishikari River is a symbol of Asahikawa. Lightings are turned on during night to beautifully light up objects and scenes, which must be seen.
