The museum inspired by Ryotaro Shiba novel world

Here, the world of "Clouds Above the Hill" is brought to life.

Here, the world of "Clouds Above the Hill" is brought to life. This is a novel about the struggles and accomplishments of three protagonists, mirroring the evolution of modern Japan through turbulent times. The museum also functions as a "Center for New Town Planning".

The building seen from above is an equilateral triangle, so it is very unique. However, its layout makes it quite difficult to go around, so expect some confused looks from those going through the exhibitions. Actually, rather being one exhibitions, you will find here a grouping of various exhibits, more or less related to the history of the city of Matsuyama itself.

The museum is in fact inspired of true life stories which have been turned into a novel then into an NHK drama and targets mostly a local or a knowing audience but the history part will be appealing for locals and tourists alike.

The collection and items regrouped there are quite interesting, letters, paintings, books and photos are put together in a way to transcribe live stories in a certain poetic way. Although an English audio translation is available for a small fee, most of the details are hardly covered which make the place more attractive for native Japanese speakers. That said, it remains the perfect attraction if you happen to visit the city on a rainy day.
