Exploring a replica of an old Japanese village

Wander around this charming village and go back in time

Wander around this charming village and go back in time, exploring a replica of an old Japanese village. This is definitely one of the top attractions in the Fujikawaguchiko region. Lovely thatched roofed buildings stand facing Mount Fuji, these have been rebuilt with great attention to details after the village was destroyed by a landslide during a typhoon in the late sixties.

The place is now an open air museum where the tourists can relive the traditions and purchase different handicrafts. There is in total over twenty houses, some hold exhibitions and museum such as the Watanabe House which showcases the daily life the farmers used to have in the area. Other houses display local arts and products.

One of the highlight of the village is the studio where tourists and visitors can get to try Kimonos and Samurai armors for a small photoshoot. That said, the crowning jewel remains the majestic Mount Fuji, standing tall and proud in the horizon.
The whole visit will take you about one hour to finish, a well-worth time spend as the place is just 40 minutes’ ride with the retro buses from Kawaguchiko station.
