A scenic spot for a carefree hike

Mount Oyama stands at an elevation of 1,252 meters to the west of the Sagami Plain. Mount Oyama has long been revered in mountain worship as a sacred mountain inhabited by deities, and the practice of climbing Mount Oyama for pilgrimage, known as “Oyama-mairi,” was popular among commoners during the Edo period. With great access from the city, it is a popular spot for some carefree hiking. There are a variety of hiking courses that even beginners can enjoy. The Oyama Afuri Shrine, located at 700 meters above sea level, just after getting off the cable car, is also famous as a spiritual hot spot. On a clear day, from the top of the mountain where the shrine's main hall is located, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the skyscrapers of Shinjuku, the Boso Peninsula, and even Izu Oshima Island.
