Historic and iconic castle
A historic and iconic castle built 1583 overlooking Osaka
Built in one of Japan's more tumultuous eras of history - the Azuchi-Momoyama period - Osaka Castle is one of the region's most impressive and iconic landmarks. Restored in 1997 after bombing raids in World War II, this gargantuan castle is the pride of Osaka and is a must-see for visitors to Osaka City.
As the castle was refurbished, the interior of the building was modernized. Designed with accessibility in mind, easy access to elevators makes this tourist site incredibly family and wheelchair friendly. Below the main tower is an excellent spot for photography, with a stunning view of the five tiers, perfect for that essential souvenir photo of Osaka.
Beyond the imposing walls of the castle, Nishinomaru Garden is a sight not to be missed. Previously home to the wife of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, ruler of Japan in the 16th century, this lawn garden is the premier Osaka cherry blossom viewing, or hanami, location in springtime.
An unforgettable highlight of any Osaka vacation, visitors to Osaka Castle are sure to realize precisely why it is one of Japan’s most famous landmarks.
