Experience the bliss of a secret hot-spring bathing sanctuary!

The Tazawako Obonai area is home to seven luxurious hot springs.

Nyuto Onsen, the collective term for these seven hot springs, is located near the Nyuto foot hills in the Towada-Hachimantai National Park in eastern Akita. This secluded and remote area is accessible by route bus from JR Tazawako station. With more than 10 different hot spring sources, each facility offers unique hot spring characteristics with varying water qualities and efficacies. The area is ideal for a day-trip hot spring adventure where you can compare the differences between each location.
The oldest hot spring—Tsurunoyu Onsen—was the personal spa of the ruler of Akita and features a milky mixed-bathing outdoor bath. Other locations include Taenoyu Onsen, where bathers can enjoy the sounds from the nearby river in an outdoor bath; Kuroyu Onsen with a waterfall shower; Ganiba Onsen, named after the crabs that inhabit the nearby stream; Magoroku Onsen with an old-fashioned hot spring atmosphere; Ookama Onsen with a refreshing summer footbath; and Kyukamura Nyuto Onsenkyo Resort, surrounded by a lush beech forest.
The Yumeguri-cho pass provides access to all seven locations for just 1,800 yen, and the dedicated Yumeguri Bus is also available for transportation to each facility. For day-trip bathers, Tsurunoyu’s teahouse is highly recommended for a quick bite to eat between dips. Popular dishes include a hearty yam hot pot and curry. With easy access from Tazawako Station, Nyuto Onsen is a must-visit location for anyone who enjoys hot springs.
