One of Japan’s largest textile districts with about 90 different shops

Home to anything and everything related to fashion and handicrafts

Located just outside JR Nippori Station’s South Gate, Nippori Fabric Town stretches about 1 km along Nippori Chuo-dori Street. In the Taisho and Showa eras, this area flourished as a textile wholesale district. Today, Nippori Fabric Town is one of Japan’s leading textile districts, with more than 90 specialty retail stores. From professional designers to aspiring fashion students to beginners passionate about handicrafts, a wide variety of visitors come for reasonably priced fashion and craft materials such as fabric, leather, buttons, patterns (for sewing, etc.), and accessories. The wide selection of goods makes Nippori Fabric Town an exciting place to shop or simply explore.

The alleys just off Nippori Chuo-dori known as Ura-Nippori, and those further back known as Oku-Nippori, are home to popular hidden shops with fascinating materials. Each store also offers not-to-be-missed seasonal fashion week sales, and various events for students and the general public fill the streets with people and excitement, including the Nippori Fashion Design Contest. In recent years, the area has also become a popular international destination with visitors coming not only from across Japan but also overseas.
