Modern art museum
A collection of around 5,000 works of contemporary art
Fans of contemporary art need look no further than the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo. Home to one of the best, if not the top, collections in all of Japan, the museum is an art-lover’s delight. Opened in 1995, the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo showcases thousands of works over several floors and draws just as many visitors each year, from both Japan and abroad.
The Museum of Contemporary Art was established to research, collect, display, and preserve contemporary art dated post-1945 from both Japan and overseas. Now more than just a museum, educational programs are at the heart of this establishment. The museum makes an effort to gather the works of modern artists to present a more well-defined sense of the current trends in art.
The facility offers a range of displays, some permanent and some temporary, though all very high quality. With artists like Warhol, Hockney, and Lichtenstein on display, any contemporary art lover will be in heaven. More modern displays like the Pixar exhibition mean that visitors of all ages can find something to admire.
