Lake Shirakaba

The highland resort of Lake Shirakaba lies at an elevation of 1,416 meters. In the spring and summer the flowers and blossoms are all abloom, almost battling to see who can be the most dazzling, and later in the year you can enjoy all kinds of winter sports. The lake itself, with a circumference of around 4 kilometers, will allow you to enjoy a variety of popular activities from boating to fishing. Come here to try your hand at fishing for koi carp, maraena whitefish, white crucian carp, and wakasagi smelt. Of course you can use the lakeshore, but there are also fishing boats available to rent so you can go out on the lake on a fishing adventure!
At Lake Shirakaba, you can enjoy a variety of activities completely at your leisure, from kayaking and canoeing to paragliding. The surrounding area is dotted with art museums, horseback riding facilities, theme parks and the like: there’s something for the whole family! You can also enjoy the local ski resort which is famous for its good weather. The hot spring bathing facilities on the lakeside are perfect to wash away the weariness of your long day of sightseeing! Here you can enjoy all the many attractions Lake Shirakaba has to offer.
Located at roughly the mid-point of the popular Venus Line driving route, just a stone’s throw away from Kita-Yatsugatake Ropeway, the Tateshina Highlands and the Utsukushigahara Highlands. Another of the pleasures of the area is a mountain drive around the Lake Shirakaba region.
