The fourth largest of the Fuji five lakes

Looking at the greatest mountain in Japan with unparalleled views

Lake Saiko or Lake Sai is the fourth largest of the Fuji five lakes and sits beside the beautiful Aokigahara Jukai forest. The lake is peaceful with an abundance of birdlife and Mount Fuji standing high in the horizon.

On a clear day, it is recommended to try canoeing on the lake. The waters are very calm and the surrounding very quiet so they are a good fit for those who are enjoying this activity for the first time. The lake surroundings are heavily wooded and a mountain belt might shield you from seeing mount Fuji, so head to the north shore to have the chance of looking at the greatest mountain in Japan with unparalleled views.

If you finish touring the lake, head to the Wind Cave or Bat Cave nearby. This will extend your visit and if you have more time the historic village of Saiko Iyashi no Sato Nemba is close by and can be easily accessed by bus.
Because of the altitude, the place is often windy and cold, especially in fall and winter. In summer, many would go camping there and enjoy a memorable bike ride.
