An antique shopping and dining spot in Hakodate

This old section of Hakodate is definitely fun to walkabout, in particular because of its location nearby the canal.

Find here an antique shopping and dining spot built during the Meiji era and recently restored. Originally built by Kumashiro Watanabe, the warehouse business prospered in the early 19th century and evolved alongside the city at the time. Now it has been repurposed as museums, shops, bars and restaurants. It would take you about two hours to visit around and stop at every corner, a great place to find the unusual and all kind of products, including handicrafts. This old section of Hakodate is definitely fun to walkabout, in particular because of its location nearby the canal. It makes for a perfect spot for a romantic date or a relaxed day with the family. There are many restaurants and eateries serving local delicacies. In general, the shops open from 9:30am until 7pm and some suggest to go both during the day and during the evening as the atmosphere is quite different. In summer we suggest you to try cheese sticks in the chilled section of the local supermarket while in winter you should go for the Snaffles, a unique type of soft cheesecakes, they will literally melt in your mouth. We do hope that you will find the time to have a nice stroll in this picturesque place. It is definitely a must if you are visiting Hakodate for a few days.
