A national treasure with an average temperature of 3℃

Originally used by the locals as a natural refrigerator in the old times

The Wind Cave is a national treasure with an average temperature of 3℃. The 201-meters lava created cave has beautiful features including icicles, lava shelves, rope lava and a spectacular lava pond. The visit is not a long one (about 30mn round trip) but we do recommend bringing a jacket as it gets quite cold inside even in summer.

Being underground, this sightseeing spot is perfect for keeping you busy during the rainy days. Fun fact, the place was originally used by the locals as a natural refrigerator in the old times, to store silkworm eggs and seeds. The cave being small, there might be some locations where the ceiling comes a bit low for the tallest among us but safety helmets are provided to all visitors.

The cave can be found at the last stop of the green line bus from Kawaguchiko station (30 minutes ride) and is part of the very beautiful Aokigahara forest. If you have the time and if weather permits, go for a stroll in the woods and head to the nearby Lake Saiko. Finally, in the east entrance of the forest stands another Ice Cave, smaller but no less interesting.
